How to Stop Smoking
How to stop smoking? Have you been
asking yourself that question? That's a good sign. It's the vital first step to doing something about
your cigarette addiction. Read on to find some answers.
I've been there, I know where you're coming from; the stink of stale tobacco in clothes and hair that
never goes away; the way people recoil from your sour breath when you get close to them.
The visits to the drugstore to buy breath mints and mouth wash that just add to the rancid reek of
stale smoke. The gnawing fear at the damage you're doing to your body.
And the panic that gnaws when you see only a few sticks left in the pack. That's the worst. It's
raining. Heck, I need the exercise. I wouldn't go out for milk or bread. Those could wait until tomorrow. But
this is different. Dig into the wallet for much-needed money. To feed the monster.
Walking home, maybe you wonder for a moment why you're paying through the nose to destroy your entire
body and smell like an ashtray in the process. But then you light up and waw, there's the fix. That makes it all
worthwhile. Until 20 minutes later when the craving comes back to gnaw at you. And you light up again and the
flood of relief comes again. And for a moment you're at peace with the world, again.
But I'll let you in on a secret. If you're not a slave to nicotine that's how you always feel. You
don't need that fix. You don't need to pay through the nose to destroy yourself. You're free to live and breath
fresh air. You're not hooked.
You CAN get your life back and it's easier than you think. I used to think I was a real addict, a
smoker born and bred. Other people could quit but smoking was part of my genetic code. I was born to smoke. But
I decided to stop one day.
It was a frightening decision. Just the thought of not smoking and my hand reached for the pack
reassuringly full of white sticks with the yellow tips.
But one day I'd finally had enough of the constant foul mouth and the stink in my apartment. I was fed
up of going out for a guilty drag as more and more buildings became smoke-free. And I was tired of blocking out
of my mind the terrible things I knew smoking was doing to my body. And I asked myself how to stop smoking.
You can quit tobacco too.
But you say "I've been at it too long, it's in my blood." Poppycock. I smoked for 20 years, quit and
never looked back.
"Cigarettes are a part of my life now", you protest. "Smoking is like second nature to me". Nonsense.
Smoking is an aberration. Puff a blast in your pet dog or cat's face and see how nature reacts.
"But I'll put on weight!", you lament. You don't have to. The same triggers that push you to the
cigarette pack make you reach for the candy for a quick fix. Once you recognize them, you'll be ready to handle
and control them.
"But what about how good that cigarette tastes after a meal?". You know, after a few weeks you don't
give it a second thought.
You just look out of the restaurant windows at the nicotine slaves puffing away outside, averting
their eyes and making wisecracks to each other to ease their embarrassment. And you feel just great, in control
and free.
You can be free from nicotine
Right now, giving up smoking may seem to be the hardest think in the world. But read through these
pages and I promise a change in your thinking will take place subtly and surely.
One thing to realize is that the main factor in giving up smoking is more mental than physical. If you
get into the right mindset, you will be in charge of your body, not its slave. That's why therapies such as
quit smoking hypnosis are vital to your success.
